A city is threatened by fire and wild coyotes in Jill Connell’s play The Tall Building. For three strangers living high above in an apartment building, however, it’s not the fire or coyotes that concerns them – it’s each other.

True to its moniker, Handsome Alice Theatre’s production of Jill Connell’s absurdist drama The Tall Building is handsome.From design and direction to performance, a great deal of talent has been lavished on Connell’s play. The play is set on the 100th floor of a skyscraper in a not-too-distant apocalyptic city that is on fire.

There is something completely refreshing about taking something conventional and flipping it on its head. Men playing all the roles in a play, including the roles of women. Men being the funny ones, making the jokes and getting all the laughs. Men being the heroes, who fight the battles and win the wars.

Sometimes you see a show that takes you completely by surprise. For me, Goodnight Desdemona (Good Morning Juliet) was that show.
